When It Comes to Your Feet, Don’t Wait
Meet Dr. Kulekowskis – HPH’s Podiatrist and Wound Care Medical Director
About Dr. AnnMarie Kulekowskis, DPM
Dr. AnnMarie Kulekowskis (or, Dr. K., as she is known) is a board-certified podiatric surgeon and the Medical Director of the Wound Care Center at Humboldt Park Health. She completed her residency at what was then Norwegian American Hospital, serving as chief resident, and chose to stay here to serve our community.
In more than 20 years at HPH, Dr. K. has performed over 5,000 surgical procedures – from routine care to complex reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. Her specialties and passions are wound care and limb salvage.
Why Foot Health Can’t Wait
Foot problems are often the first sign of something more serious, especially for people living with diabetes. Tingling and numbness, poor circulation, and slow-healing wounds can escalate quickly when left untreated.
“Managing foot health is especially important for our diabetic patients,” Dr. K. explains. “They tend to have issues that can really compromise their foot health, and they may not even feel it happening.”
Her advice: check your feet daily, don’t ignore new changes, and see a podiatrist regularly. Early detection can prevent ulcerations and even amputations.
Our number one goal is limb salvage. We get patients who have been told they need an amputation – and we find another way.

What Makes HPH’s Wound Care Center Different
At HPH’s Wound Care Center, the goal is to take the stress out of healing. “Patients who come here can feel very relaxed about their home care,” she says. “We take a lot of that out of the equation.”
Dr. K. and her team handle cleaning, bandaging, and infection management, so patients can focus on recovery. The team also collaborates with physical therapists to address any home barriers, such as stairs or mobility challenges, that could slow the healing process. Patients leave with clear, step-by-step instructions and the confidence to follow through.
A Second Opinion Can Change Everything
HPH’s Wound Care Center is a limb salvage center. That means patients who have been told elsewhere that amputation is their only option come to Dr. K. for another look. And many find a different path forward.
If you or someone you love is facing that conversation, don’t make a decision without getting a second opinion first.
